Siemens Selects AeroBot Solution from KNAPP

Company News

Electronics manufacturer, Siemens has chosen the award-winning AeroBot warehouse robotics system for it’s manufacturing facility in Karlsruhe, Germany.

The new AeroBot picking and storage system, due to go live later this year, will connect seamlessly to Siemens’ existing warehouse processes and will optimise intralogistics at the Karlsruhe facility.

AeroBot features robots that move in three dimensions to store, retrieve and transport loads. The intelligent bots move lengthwise and crosswise on the floor and vertically by climbing the racks. Working independently to access all areas, the bots will provide a reliable and scalable solution for the supply of Siemens’ manufacturing lines.

The AeroBot system will store containers quadruple-deep across 30,000 locations on 27 levels, fully automatically. In its final form, the system will feature 21 autonomous storage robots, which will make 280 storage and retrieval movements per hour.

The solution will be controlled by KNAPP’s KiSoft One software, which will be connected to Siemens’ SAP® EWM solution through an interface. The modular software manages all processes to ensure optimal material flows, maximising both efficiency and transparency.

Siemens has been using a fleet of KNAPP’s Open Shuttle autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) to supply its production areas for several years. As part of the latest order, Siemens will also expand the Open Shuttle fleet from three to six AMRs.
