ifm electronic Launches Compact O2I2 Series Multicode Readers for High-Speed Industrial Identification

Product News

ifm has announced the launch of its new O2I2 series multicode readers, delivering a powerful combination of performance and cost-effectiveness for modern production environments. This new line of compact sensors addresses the growing need for reliable identification in confined spaces without sacrificing speed or accuracy.

The O2I2 series is designed to handle demanding industrial tasks where space is often at a premium. Despite their small physical footprint, these devices offer uncompromising performance. They can process up to 50 codes and 60 images per second, ensuring they keep pace with highly dynamic applications. The readers maintain exceptional reliability even when detecting objects moving at speeds of up to 3 metres per second. This speed and precision make them an ideal solution for high-volume manufacturing lines that require consistent throughput.

Versatility is a core strength of the new series. The readers are engineered to support a wide range of applications, including product tracking along production lines and order picking in logistics centres. They are also highly effective for position mark detection in automated guided vehicle (AGV) systems and for retracing sensitive components within the semiconductor industry. To ensure seamless integration into existing infrastructure, the devices feature both Ethernet and RS232 interfaces.

A key innovation in the O2I2 series is the integration of deep learning-based AI algorithms. This advanced technology provides outstanding robustness against faults and code defects, allowing the readers to function effectively even when codes are damaged or difficult to read. The intelligent algorithms enable high positioning accuracy and utilise automatic image adjustment and pre-processing to significantly enhance decoding efficiency.

Setting up the new multicode readers is straightforward thanks to the user-friendly “Vision Assistant” PC software. This tool allows operators to configure the devices quickly, enabling them to solve complex identification tasks in next to no time. By simplifying the configuration process, ifm ensures that manufacturers can deploy these systems rapidly and maintain high levels of productivity.
