MULTIDISCIPLINED engineering firm adi Group welcomed young people, schools and general visitors to its Birmingham headquarters as part of National Manufacturing Day 2025.

Taking place on September 25, the day acts as a UK-wide initiative that highlights the variety of career opportunities available in the manufacturing and engineering sectors.

The open day at adi Group’s Kings Norton site included opportunities for visitors to observe project demonstrations and learn more about the company’s multi-disciplinary approach to engineering. The programme has been designed to highlight how a range of technical skills and teamwork contribute to delivering projects across multiple sectors.

James Sopwith, Group Strategic Account Director at adi Group, explained the company’s reasons for taking part in the initiative: “National Manufacturing Day provides an important opportunity to demonstrate the scale and scope of the UK manufacturing sector. By opening our facilities to visitors, we can give young people a clear view of the type of work undertaken at adi Group and the skills required to deliver it.

“Visitors will be able to meet our teams, see projects in progress and understand how skills, technology and collaboration come together in practice.

“Our involvement is not limited to this one day. We continue to run workshops and activities with local schools throughout the year, supporting young people as they explore potential routes into engineering, including our pre-apprenticeship programme, as well as standard apprenticeships through to technical and professional careers.

“We see this as part of a longer-term commitment to helping build the workforce of the future and ensuring that young people are well-informed about the opportunities within manufacturing and engineering.”

National Manufacturing Day takes place annually on the final Thursday in September. The initiative encourages manufacturers across the UK to engage directly with local communities, schools and jobseekers to raise awareness of the careers available in the sector.

As a business that delivers thousands of projects each year across 35 specialist disciplines, adi Group views the day as an extension of its ongoing outreach and education work. The company aims to strengthen links with schools and colleges while showcasing the relevance of manufacturing to the next generation.
